A 6-year-old autistic boy from New York was booted off a school bus this week after being diagnosed as having lice, according to a report from Granite Broadcasting sister station WKBW in Buffalo.

According to the WKBW report:

Wednesday, the boy's mother received a call from her son's school teacher telling her the boy had lice and she should pick him up from school.

But the boy's mother had no transportation and the teacher agreed to send the boy home after school with the rest of the kids on the school bus but keep him away from other students.

Things took a turn in another direction, however, when the boy's bus driver called dispatch and was instructed to boot the boy off the bus.

Officials from the bus company now say that should have never happened.
