A tragic story from Illinois over the weekend, as reported by Granite Broadcasting sister station CINewsNew.com in Peoria, Ill.
According to the report from CINewsNow.com:
Police officers responded a home in Galesburg, Ill., on Saturday for a report of a child attacked by a dog.
In a news release, police say officers arrived and found the dog biting the child. They were able to disengage the dog from the child.
The dog then turned on the officers, who had to shoot it to prevent further attacks on officers or others nearby.
Police say that a 7-year-old boy, was visiting the residence and was playing in the backyard when the attack occurred.
The boy was transported to a hospital, where he died from injuries sustained in the attack.
This incident remains under investigation by police.
