According to a report from Granite Broadcasting sister station WKBW in Buffalo, N.Y., police in Niagara Falls are searching for the suspect who dumped a puppy in a dumpster Wednesday.

According to the WKBW report:

Police were called when local workers noticed a pitbull in the an outdoor trash bin on 30th and Niagara street in Niagara Falls.

The Niagara SPCA rescued the dog who was underweight, injured, and shaken up.

"She was very swollen, she had some abrasions," said Amy Lewis, Shelter Director at Niagara SPCA. " We are guessing she was struck by a car and I don't know if the person who hit her put her in the garbage can but she was basically thrown away. "

The puppy is now in the care of veterinarians at Companion Care Animal Hospital. She is being treated for cuts, scrapes, and a broken jaw.
