Is Your Check Engine Light On? Find Out The Average Repair Cost In Your State

Is the Check Engine Light on in your vehicle? Do you wonder how much it is going to cost to have the issue repaired?

Now you have some answers thanks to an analysis released this week by CarMD.com.

According to CarMD.com, the average cost for check engine light repairs in the U.S. in 2012 was $367.84, which marked an increase of 10 percent from 2011. Some states, though, have a higher average repair cost than others.

According to a news release issued by CarMD.com, drivers in New Jersey now pay the most in the nation to have check engine repairs diagnosed and repaired (average cost of $392.99).

The other most expensive states/areas for check engine light repairs, according to CarMD are:

District of Columbia: $391.62

California: $390.37

North Carolina: $389.91

Maryland: $387.78

The five least expensive states are:

Iowa: $314.77

Delaware: $313.62

South Dakota: $311.88

West Virginia: $310.49

Vermont: $269.72
