Fort Wayne, Ind. (www.incnow.tv) - Hundreds of Hoosier jobs and more than 18,000 across the country, all employed by Hostess, could now be without a job.

Last Friday, workers at 23 plants took to the streets on strike after an overwhelming majority voted down what they call 'an unacceptable contract' that would again cut their pay and benefits.

Wednesday, Hostess CEO Greg Rayburn told striking employees that if they did not return to work by 5 p.m. Thursday he would be forced to liquidate the company.

The employees at the Hostess Outlet Store on Bluffton Road have known for some time their jobs were in jeopardy. But that didn't make it easier when the news came down that the store was going to close.

Hostess District Sales Manager A.J. Lisi says the 17 employees of his store are stunned.

“Right now it's just a tough time. There's nothing you can say about it. It was announced early this morning and now we're being told we won't have a job,” says Lisi.

The workers at this store are not union employees like those who went on company-wide strike, but the workers we spoke with don't blame the union. They say their company has been mismanaged for years.

Company operations officially cease at 6 p.m. Friday but the Fort Wayne store will stay open for the next few days until the stock is all gone.
