FORT WAYNE, Ind. (Indiana’s NewsCenter) - Tensions in Libya are certainly causing tensions for Hoosiers at the pump with gas prices hovering around $3.50.
Getting a car with better gas mileage might not be in your budget, but there are some steps you can take to improve your car's fuel economy.
Josh Harth with Berger Auto Center says you can start by checking air pressure in your tires. He says low tire pressure causes more friction with the road and forces the engine to do more work to get you where you need to go. He also says adding some fuel injection cleaner and checking your air filters are hugely important. They promote a clean engine.
Harth says, "A clean engine will run better, will run more efficiently. Obviously a dirty engine, dirty engine oil, dirty filters- it's going to make the engine strain more, use more gas obviously."
Getting on the highway for your next destination? Harth says to hit the cruise control. Cruise control will maintain your car's speed. Frequent stop and go causes more work for your car and causes more gas to burn.
