INDIANA (Indiana’s NewsCenter) - Indiana lawmakers are taking up the issue of banning gay marriage in the Hoosier state.
A House committee voted to advance a proposal to the full House creating an amendment to the state's constitution banning gay marriage and civil unions.
An amendment banning gay marriage passed in 2005, but amendments must go through two separate legislatures and a public referendum.
In 2006, the proposal did not have the votes.
If it clears the legislature this year, the proposal would have to pass again in 2013 or 2014 before getting on the ballot.
