FORT WAYNE, IN (Indiana's NewsCenter) --- A group of Fort Wayne senior citizens spent the noon hour Friday getting an education on an election that falls outside the norm.
The Third District Congressional race is something voters will have to watch for.
46 days now until we go to the polls to vote in a variety of local, state and national races.
Former Congressman Mark Souder's resignation in May set up the need to vote twice in the Third District House of Representative's contest.
The representative who will serve the next two-year term must be picked, and a special election will also be held November 2nd, to fill out the small remaining time in Souder’s current term.
Andy Downs from the Mike Downs Center for Indiana Politics addressed members of the American Association of Retired Persons at lunchtime.
The fact the two questions are not right next to each other on the ballot is an unfortunate complication.
Andy Downs/Mike Downs Center for Indiana Politics: " For Allen County voters, they're actually on two separate pages, which might cause some confusion, but given what all is on the ballot, it was not possible to put both on the same page."
More is riding on the outcomes in November than is normally the case in a mid-term election.
This was the year of a census, done every ten years, and because of that, the state legislature in 2011 will tackle the job of drawing lines for re-districting based on the census results.
If Republicans win a majority in the Indiana House, they will be in control of re-districting, and you can bet the lines will be drawn in a Republican-friendly manner.
