Protecting Your Kids On Halloween

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (Indiana's NewsCenter) - Trick or Treating begins tonight in some areas and will go on all weekend. What is being done to ensure your child's safety from sexual predators?

Kids of all ages, some accompanied by parents and other with friends, will hit the Summit City streets in search of some delicious treats. A question on some the minds of some parents though, what restriction are being placed on sexual offenders?

This could come a surprise, but no restrictions are placed on sexual offenders in Allen County according to the Allen County Sheriff’s Department. They can pass out candy and entertain trick or treaters like anyone else. If an offender is on probation or on parole, it is up to the parole or probation officer to enforce any restrictions placed on the offender.

Parents are also encourage to go the Allen County Sheriff’s website, which can be found under the Newslinks page.

The sheriff’s department also has some recommendations for parents:

-Accompany your children
-Children who are not accompanied by adults should travel in groups
-Do not approach a home that no lights on
-Do not go on the sides or in the backyards of homes
-Do not enter anyone’s home
