PAULDING, Ohio (Indiana's NewsCenter) - A local military hero was honored in a big way with a billboard being donated to honor Staff Sargent Mark Barnes of Paulding.

Barnes earned the bronze star medal with combat valor for his heroic achievements during "Operation Iraqi Freedom" in 2006.

He says it's a bit overwhelming to see himself on a billboard.

United States Marines SSgt. Mark Barnes says, “It's a small town, Paulding, Ohio. You've got wheat fields over here corn fields over here. And you're out in the middle of the mid-west and I mean yeah it's very prideful and you know a sense of honor.”

The billboard will move around the community for the next few months.
