FORT WAYNE, IN (Indiana's NewsCenter) --- None of the City of Fort Wayne’s nearly $40-million in light lease monies can be spent until a key state regulatory agency approves it.
The Indiana Utility Regulatory Commission will perform a review role in a transaction between the city and Indiana-Michigan Power.
The IURC is an administrative utility court, which oversees the operation of more than 800 utilities across Indiana.
The sale of Fort Wayne's electric infrastructure to I & M isn't official until the IURC says it is.
A petition was filed with the agency on December 30th for review of this agreement.
All parties must present evidence before any decision is made.
That includes taking input and comments from members of the public who may want to weigh in on the subject.
Danielle McGrath/IURC Spokesperson: " At the end of the day, we really just want to make sure that this is in the public interest, and that the agreement reached by the parties is reasonable. Consumers do have a voice in the process and this is an opportunity to make sure that their position is also heard."
February 8th is the date for a pre-hearing conference, where additional hearing and filing dates get determined.
A follow-up hearing will likely come in a few months, where IURC board members can hear evidence.
