ALLEN COUNTY, Ind. (Indiana’s NewsCenter) - You may have seen them, heard their howls and even some are reporting their small pets missing, injured, or even dead. The problem? Coyotes.
For weeks residents from around the area, mostly southwest Fort Wayne and Allen County, have been reporting sightings of coyotes around the area.
One local veterinarian says he's received an influx of calls about pets who are suffering from injuries sustained by a coyote attack.
Indiana’s NewsCenter spoke with DNR officials who had this to say:
Indiana Conservation Officer John Salb says, “We have had reports on coyotes praying on small dogs and cats. It'd be a good idea if you have a small pet to not let the animal out at night or at least watch and make sure you have lights on in the back.”
DNR officials say it's not unusual for coyotes to be seen in residential areas. Saying they're a curious animal but will scatter at the first threatening sound or flash of light, like a porch light.
