Reading Test May Determine If Students Move On To 4th Grade

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (Indiana’s NewsCenter) - Social promotion may soon be a thing of the past if a proposal by the state board of education is approved by the Governor.

Under the proposal the state's third graders would have to pass a new reading test before being promoted to the fourth grade.

About a third of third grade students fail the English and Language Arts ISTEP test each year
