FLORDIA (Indiana’s NewsCenter) - A ruling by a Florida federal judge deems the Obama Administration's health care overhaul unconstitutional.
The ruling sides with 26 states including Indiana that have sued to block it.
U.S. District Judge Roger Vinson accepted the states' argument that the new law violates people's rights by forcing them to purchase health insurance by 2014 or face penalties.
In his ruling, Judge Vinson declared the entire health care law unconstitutional.
Indiana Attorney General Greg Zoeller released the following statement:
“Today's ruling in Florida finding that a portion of the law is unconstitutional under the Commerce Clause is historic, and an important check on the scope of the federal government's power.”
He also agrees the case is destined to go before the U.S. Supreme Court.
