FORT WAYNE, Ind. (Indiana's NewsCenter) - City Councilman Tim Pape has decided he's done.

The Democrat announced this morning he will not seek re-election to his 5th district council seat this year. That district covers part of Fort Wayne's south side.

He gave no concrete reason for why he'll step down, but in a statement Pape says "In any time, but especially in these times, politics is challenging. It demands a great personal investment. But it is also meaningful and fun and rewarding..."

Pape has served on the city council since 1999. He said he's proud of his work, including the revitalization of Southtown Centre and enhancing downtown.

Pape was unopposed for the Democratic nomination for the 5th district council seat in this year's May primary election. Businessman Jim McCoy is running as a Republican candidate in the race. Melissa Hicks is also apparently a Republican candidate for the seat.
