Indiana (Indiana’s NewsCenter) - Sales tax is consistently the largest percentage of revenue in the state of Indiana, but the explosion of online sales has prompted many states to update their laws.
Online giant Amazon will begin collecting Indiana’s sales tax from customers in 2014, which could pump in more than $20 million to the Hoosier state.
The tax is only collected when the business has a physical presence in the state, so at Sweetwater, they only collect tax for online sales that come from Indiana.
The company says the online tax laws are closely watched when it comes to any expansion plans.
Many brick and mortar stores have complained that online retailers have price advantages based on the current tax laws regulating sales tax.
