$17.4 Million Investment From Major Orthopedics Device-Maker Will Bring New Jobs To The Area

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (Indiana's NewsCenter) - New York based orthopedics device-maker, Greatbatch Medical, announcement today that it will invest $17.4 million to build a new orthopaedics facility here in Allen County.

Part of the investment will go towards an 80,000 square foot facility on 20 acres of land next to Sweetwater Sound on Kroemer Road and is expected to be completed by 2012.

Greatbatch manufactures technologies used in medical devices for cardiac, neurology, vascular and orthopedic markets.

Currently, Greatbatch has facilities in Columbia City, Warsaw and Indianapolis.

The facility in Allen County will focus on manufacturing orthopaedic devices.

New jobs come with the announcement. Seventy-six jobs are expected to be filled by 2014. The jobs will be high skill, high technology jobs that include scientists, engineers and manufacturing positions.

Greatbatch also plans to retain 105 jobs.
