FORT WAYNE, Ind. (Indiana’s NewsCenter) - Two popular politicians from Allen County seem destined to butt heads in a State Senate race in 2014.
Allen County Sheriff Ken Fries confirms he's ready to take on long-time State Senator Tom Wyss in the 2014 Republican Primary.
Wyss says he was expecting the challenge from Fries for several months.
He believes Fries has been upset with him over a vote requiring combined 911 dispatch services, and for Wyss' support of a bill to limit the pay of sheriffs statewide.
State Sen. Tom Wyss (R) Fort Wayne says, "Over the last several years, there've been disagreements that I've had with Mr. Fries, and I'm sure that those are all things that made him decide it."
Sheriff Ken Fries (R) Allen County says, "I've always thought he was a good public servant. Do I always agree with what he does, no. Will people always agree with what I do, no. But to say it's personal, that shocks me."
Fries is term limited, and must leave his sheriff post at the end of 2014.
