Allen County, Ind. (Indiana’s NewsCenter) - The recent rain has led a number of residents to wonder if the burn ban might be lifted in Allen County any time soon.
The County Commissioners Office told Indiana’s NewsCenter Tuesday morning they're in contact with area fire departments to monitor current conditions.
If it's unanimous that conditions have improved enough to lift the ban, a decision would be made, but public safety is still the top concern, even if the ban is lifted.
Allen County Commissioner Nelson Peters says, “Our fear is that if we lift the burn ban, the pent up demand to burn trash and debris will cause a lot of fires that otherwise wouldn't be occurring, because everybody will want to be doing it at the same time.
The burn ban in Allen County has been in place for just over a month.
All but six Indiana counties still have a ban in place.
