Panel Set To Review School Performance Standards (VIDEO)

INDIANAPOLIS (21Alive) - A state panel has been assembled to review Indiana's schools accountability systems.

Seventeen members were chosen statewide to the Accountability System Review Panel, which will review school performance standards outlined in the Memorandum of Understanding released last week.

Of the 17 panelists, four each were chosen by the State Senate, Indiana House of Representatives, Gov. Mike Pence and the Indiana Department of Education. Additionally, State Superintendent of Public Instruction Glenda Ritz, D-Ind., will serve as member and act as co-chair of the group.

State Sen. President Pro Temp David Long, R-Fort Wayne, selected members on behalf of the State Senate:

  • Steven Yager, Ed.D., superintendent of Southwest Allen County Schools
  • Steve Baker, principal at Bluffton High School
  • Melanie Park, 2012 Indiana Teacher of the Year from Riverview Middle School in Huntington
  • Derek Redelman, technical advisor from Indiana Chamber of Commerce
  • A final report detailing recommendations for the future of the Bennett A-F System is due from the Accountability System Review Panel by Nov. 1.
