(Fort Wayne, IN) -- National Cancer Awareness Month kicks off next week, with Scott's Cancer Day and a breast cancer walk.
And police say a local woman is taking advantage of the situation, by scamming her way through the community.
McMahan tire has a history of civic support.
So it made a perfect target, police say, for 32 year old Nichoe Rowlett.
They say she scammed the store three times, claiming to be a nurse collecting money for the American Cancer Society.
Rick Hurst\McMahan Tire: "she is so good that I would have bet my life that it was, there was no way it could have been a hoax, no way. I mean, she had details on everything."
Rowlett is wanted on felony warrants in Steuben and LaGrange counties.
And Greg Lewis of Crimestoppers says she's a real pro.
Greg Lewis\Crimestoppers: "she has a lengthy, lengthy, criminal record. She's been a federal inmate, she's been a state inmate, so she has served time. She has had several run-ins with the law in Allen County, DeKalb County, Noble County, Steuben County and LaGrange County."
If someone approaches you about donating to a cause, call that organization or the Better Business Bureau to check whether their story is legit.
McMahan Tire will press charges against Rowlett, and its employees don't want you to be taken in by her story the way they were.
If you know where nichoe rowlett is, call crimestoppers at 436-STOP.
