ISLE OF PALMS, S.C. (Indiana's NewsCenter) - A teen from Indianapolis vacationing on a South Carolina beach is recovering from a shark bite.

16-year-old Alex Stamn and his best friend's family had just arrived on the Isle of Palms when he says a shark bit him in waist deep water.

He says his friend's family immediately jumped into action and got him help.

He now has more than 40-stitches on his right leg.

Alex Stamn said, “I yelled and my first reaction was I tried to hit it with my left hand and then I saw the tail swim away. And then I told my friend Christian just to get out of the water."

Stamn says he got into a bicycle accident last year, but told friends he was bitten by a shark.

He says he shouldn't have talked that up, because now they're probably not going to believe this shark tale.
