BEVERLY SHORES, Ind. (Indiana's NewsCenter) - A Chicago girl drowned while trying to save her sister at a Lake Michigan beach in northwest Indiana this holiday weekend.

9-year-old Destiny Bahena saw her 6-year-old sister struggling in the water Saturday, and went to rescue her.

But Destiny drowned in the process.

Thanks to her help, though, crews were able to keep her little sister alive.

The younger girl is expected to survive.

Neither girl knew how to swim.
