HUNTINGTON COUNTY, Ind. (Indiana's NewsCenter) - Habitat for Humanity is widely recognized for their work building affordable homes for families in need.
But for families who have gone through the experience, the lessons learned will last a lifetime.
Like budgeting classes and family life seminars, where they learn how to do everything from make their own cleaning solutions to balancing a budget.
Three years after receiving her own Habitat Home, Emily Bruner offers advice to families just getting involved with the program.
Emily says, “It's very emotional. I almost started crying during my dedication, because it's a very big day. And anybody who's getting their keys for the first time knows how big of a day it really is. And I'd say remember everything that habitat has taught them, because it does help out in the long run with raising your kids and having a stable family. It helps a lot."
Max and Bailey Bruner say, “It’s because they build houses and people is working for that job because people need houses to live in."
Emily also says today she is debt free and working to make her home her own.
