WHITLEY COUNTY, Ind. (www.incnow.tv) --- A driver is shot during an attempted carjacking.

Shortly after 7 a.m. Sunday morning, officers were called out to the intersection of SR 5 and Old Trail in Whitley County. The shooting victim was holding the shooter, 17 year old Dakota Kimbler at gunpoint.

The victim just finished work at Paragon Medical and was enroute to head home. According to police, once the victim was in Whitley County he noticed someone was in the backseat of his car. He turned to confront the person and was shot in the chest by Kimbler.

Reports say despite being shot, the victim was able to wrestle the gun away from Kimbler, hold him at gunpoint, called the police, and waited for their arrival.

The shooting victim was taken to a hospital and Kimbler was taken into police custody.

Kimbler is held in the Whitley County jail on a preliminary charge of attempted murder. Police say Kimbler is a runaway from the Pierceton Woods juvenile detention facility.
