BUTLER, Ind. (21Alive) – A young woman is hospitalized after crashing into a utility pole. Police believe alcohol and speed might have caused the accident.

The DeKalb County Sheriff’s Department says the accident happened just before 2 a.m. Sunday.

Authorities say Hannah G. Bercot, 25, of Butler, was driving southbound on C.R. 61 near C.R. 22 when her tires dropped of the side as she went around a curve.

Police say Bercot corrected and went left of center, which prompted her to correct again and lose control of her car. She crossed the center line and hit a utility pole causing an impact to the driver’s door.

Bercot was air lifted to a nearby hospital in critical condition. She suffered a fractured skull, and cuts to her arms and face. Police say she was not wearing her seat belt at the time of the crash.
