FORT WAYNE, Ind. (www.incnow.tv) – More breaks during the school year and a shorter summer break—it’s an idea that's catching on around the state, but it hasn't hit districts in Northeast Indiana—yet.

A “balanced calendar,” also known as year-round school, aims to prevent children from forgetting what they learned throughout the school year.

In Fort Wayne, Imagine Schools on Broadway is in its second year of using a balanced calendar, and leaders say it's going well.

Fort Wayne Community Schools (FWCS) officials say says the district used a balanced calendar in the 1990's, but it showed no difference in academic achievement. But FWCS officials say the idea isn’t completely off the table, it's just not something they're looking into right now.
