FORT WAYNE, Ind. (Indiana's NewsCenter) - Area insurance agents had a busy day yesterday, answering calls from clients who slid off slick roadways during the first major snowfall.
Melissa Satterthwaite with State Farm says Wednesday was a reminder that it's important to make sure your policy is up to date and fits your needs.
"If you don't have collision coverage or if you don't know if you have collision coverage, I highly recommend that you sit down with your insurance agent and review your policy. Make sure that you have the coverages that you need in case you do have a slide off and your vehicle is damaged," says Satterthwaite.
Some policies, she says, will even cover a tow truck service if needed. The type of policy you select will also dictate how much you are responsible for when filing a claim, but Satterthwaite says you can expect to spend, on average, between $250 and $2,000 on a deductible.
Satterthwaite says a slide off could increase your insurance rates, but she says it is all dependent upon your current driving record and the type of policy. Many insurance companies, like State Farm, also offer safe driving discounts or accident forgiveness.
