INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (www.incnow.tv) - A bill proposing mandatory drug tests for welfare recipients passed the state senate Wednesday, but it will not go to the governor’s desk for signage yet.

According to Indy Star, the House and the Senate are planning to adopt an amendment to the bill, one that would allow children to continue to receive benefits even it their parents failed a drug test. Opponents to the bill still argue that the cost to expedite the tests would outweigh its purpose.

28 other states are currently discussing similar legislation.
