FORT WAYNE, Ind. (21Alive) – A long time resident looks to make a difference in Wayne Township by running for Township Assessor.

Jill Weikart announced Saturday her Republican candidacy for the Wayne Township Assessor's Office.

Weikart says she's a 20 year resident of Wayne Township and has been in the Assessor's Wffice for nearly 10 years.

In addition, she says she has six combined years in the apartment and mortgage industries. Weikart says she'll bring accuracy and fairness to the assessment process, prompt delivery of services, and predictability in the tax base.

“One of the ways I intend to bring accuracy to the process is to utilize the technology already available to us, bringing the office into the 21st century so the staff can effectively perform their jobs in an efficient manner,” she said.

Weikart will be running against Democratic incumbent Beverly Zuber in the Primary Election on May 6, 2014.
