FORT WAYNE, Ind. (21Alive) -- Officials with the Fort Wayne Fire Department believe that a fire was intentionally set in a school Sunday afternoon.

Just after 3 o'clock, crews responded to the vacant structure of White's School of the Arts on Maple Grove Avenue.

Upon arrival, flames were visible out the front door of the school.

Crews entered the building through chained doors and extinguished the flames, but then had to battle the smoke. The school suffered heavy smoke and fire damage.

The department asks anyone who may have information on who set the fire to step forward.
