FORT WAYNE, Ind. (21Alive) – The Fort Wayne Urban League and PBS teamed up for a special birthday – Dr. Seuss’!

The Fort Wayne Urban League and PBS held a Dr. Seuss birthday celebration Saturday as part of the Read Across America program.

The free family event shared the importance of reading and discussed early childhood literacy programs that are available in the area.

“Everybody loves books from an early age. We are reaching out with this program because we want to get books into the hands of the kids and the parents who most need them,” said Antoinette Francher-Donald, Director of Planning and Program Research.

Families enjoyed games and activities, and listened to Dr. Seuss readings by local business people, teachers and citizens. They even got to meet the Cat in the Hat and enjoy green eggs and ham for breakfast.
