FORT WAYNE, Ind. (21Alive) – United Way of Allen County and Volunteer Center RSVP are offering free tax preparation.

The free tax preparation program for Allen County to began Saturday and will run through April 12, 2014.

Any family or individual earning less than $52,000 annually qualifies for the free tax preparation program organized by members of the Financial Stability Partnership.

IRS-certified volunteer tax preparers will help residents file their taxes and claim available credits, including the earned income tax credit or EITC.

“They want people who are eligible for the earned income tax credit to be able to get that credit, and a lot of the people who are eligible for it don't know about it. So we do those returns to help them get that tax credit and it brings several million dollars into Allen County each year,” said Barbara Jones, a site coordinator.

Credits may help families get as much as a $5,000 refund.
