MILFORD, Ind. (21Alive) -- Two people died in an apartment located above Medina's Body Shop in a fire Thursday.

It happened just after 7 a.m. in the 300 block of Higbee St. Milford firefighters immediately requested mutual-aid from neighboring fire departments.

Officials were advised that there were possible two people still inside the building but search and rescue efforts were hampered due to unsafe conditions.

The two people were not employed by the body shop and it is not clear whether they were residents of the apartment.

The Milford Fire Department said the building and its contents are considered a total loss.

According to the Kosciusko County Coroner's office, it could take weeks to get positive identifications. The cause of death has also not been released.
