FORT WAYNE, Ind. (21Alive) -- Two Elkhart County corrections officers have been arrested on unrelated charges, according to the Elkhart Sheriff's Department.
Adrian Long stands accused of having a sexual relationship with a female inmate at the county correctional facility. The official charge is "sexual misconduct by a service provider with a detainee" and is punishable with up to 8 years in prison. He is currently in police custody with a $20,000 bond. He resigned in April after the investigation was launched.
The other officer, Aaron Vandekeere, has been charged with trafficking contraband with an inmate. The Elkhart County Sheriff's Department launched an investigation in April due to allegations of an officer smuggling contraband into the corrections facility. Vandekeere contacted an undercover officer to get a cell phone and phone card for an inmate and police arrested him shortly after. He also faces up to 8 years in prison and is being held on a $25,000 bond. He was fired from his position upon his arrest.
