Truck Driver Sentenced For U.S. 30/ Doyle Rd. Crash

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (21Alive) -- The truck driver responsible for the fatal crash on U.S. 30 and Doyle Rd in January 2013 was in court to be sentenced today.

Scott A. Saunders was sentenced to 1 year in prison with credit for time served. We will be required to serve 3 years on home detention and 6 years of probation. With credit for time served, Saunders will spend another 9 days in jail. His license will also be suspended for up to 10 years.

Earlier this year, Saunders pleaded guilty to 2 counts of reckless homicide and 6 counts of criminal recklessness for the incident in January 2013 that claimed the lives of two women. Saunders failed to break as he approached cars stopped at a stop light. The light turned green but Saunders did not slow down and slammed into the cars that were waiting at the light.
