FORT WAYNE, Ind. (Indiana's NewsCenter) – This month's recipient of "The Extra Mile" award is a woman who goes out of her way to help the elderly and people in need in our community.
And? Her aunt nominated her!
Kathleen Holland nominated Milisa Johnson because Kathleen knows first-hand how giving Milisa can be. In fact, Kathleen says that saying Milisa goes the Extra Mile... just isn't enough.
Kathleen has disabilities and calls Milisa her angel who is kind and sweet with a great sense of humor. She also says she's always there to help and even packed up all of her things before a move.
Milisa also volunteers a lot of her time with her church, NeighborLink, community committees and the Rescue Mission.
She's even traveled to Michigan to help family members declutter their lives.
Kathleen Holland says, "Her motivation has always amazed me. I think genuinely, I can't say it enough, she's just one of the kindest people I know."
Milisa Johnson says, " It's nice to hear what other people think of you. I think so many times we don't stop to think of what our reflection is to others. There's some wonderful cities out there, organizations, that can help. And, being a volunteer, you get blessed twice back. I would like some of the recognition for her as well because she is important, and she is special. We lose sight on that as people, what are worthiness, and what are importances, and we're all important."
Kathleen says Milisa is a great example of unselfish, tireless charity, and she's so grateful that she's made her life easier.
