Fort Wayne, Ind. (www.incnow.tv) - This month's The Extra Mile report shines the spotlight on Allison Wheaton, director of the Summit Equestrian Center, which provides therapy-based horseback riding sessions for all ages.
Allison loves her job!
Parent Amber Baker nominated her because she says Allison really touched her family's hearts. Amber takes her children to Summit.
Each time, she says she watches magic happen when her children ride.
Allison, who's been around horses all her life, loves the benefits of therapeutic horseback riding and was looking for an alternative therapy for people.
Amber Baker says, " Everybody loves her. The kids love her. She has great energy. She's very compassionate. I would say nine times out of ten, she doesn't even act like she sees their disability even though sometimes it's really obvious when they come in. So, it's just really refreshing as a parent of children with disabilities. They ask to come and see Allison and see the horses all the time. They love riding."
Allison Wheaton says, " I found therapeutic riding actually by accident. When I lived in Seattle, I walked into a therapeutic riding program, and I was blown away by how all the different people were working together to help these riders be all that they can be to reach their potential and do more than they really thought they could, um, through horses. The more energy I can bring, and the more I can be a bright spot in their week, the more it's gonna have positive effect on the riders and the whole family, so."
Allison says the volunteers at Summit make the magic happen.
My thanks to both ladies.
