FORT WAYNE, Ind. (www.incnow.tv) -- Kroger and the Fort Wayne Children's Zoo announced customer-friendly new ideas for Zoo Day.
15-area Kroger stores will participate in a campaign of sorts, where customers can vote for one of three favorite animals from the zoo. Local Mayors are serving as campaign chairs for each animal.
Every dollar donated for that particular animal counts as a vote. Tom Henry of Fort Wayne is the campaign chair for Jelani the Giraffe, Suzanna Hand-shoe of Kendallville is representing Fishbone the Sea Lion, and Ted Ellis of Bluffton will chair Bugara the Tiger's campaign.
Jim Anderson, Director of the Fort Wayne Children's Zoo, told 21Alive that over 21 years, almost $1.5 million has been donated to the Zoo.
"Tens of thousands of shoppers every year participated in this program. It's great for the community and it's great for the zoo," Anderson said.
Kroger donates three-percent of all customer sales. Zoo Day 2013 is Wednesday, May 15th.
