MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Ind. (www.incnow.tv) - A Montgomery County teenager died in a single vehicle crash Thursday morning, officials say.
The preliminary crash investigation revealed that Mitchell McCord, 18, of Wingate, was driving his pickup truck southbound on Old State Road 55 south of County Road 500 West. McCord failed to make the proper turn at a curve and veered off the west side of Old State Road 55.
He allegedly over corrected, traveled across the northbound lane of Old State Road 55, and off the east side of the road. The pickup truck then rolled at least twice before coming to rest. His brother, Michael McCord, 18, a passenger in the truck, was ejected from the vehicle.
Michael McCord died from massive internal injuries while being transported to a local hospital in Crawfordville. Mitchell McCord was transported by ambulance to a local hospital with a shoulder contusion. Neither teen was wearing a seat belt.
According to officials, the incident is still under investigation, but at this time neither the use of alcohol nor narcotics is suspected as having contributed to this crash.
