FORT WAYNE, Ind. (www.incnow.tv) – With the big game being only days away, all the finishing touches are being done for Super Bowl party preps, but have you given any thought to what you’re going to be watching the game on?
For big ticket audio-visual equipment, the busiest sales period runs between the Christmas holiday season through the Super Bowl. So in “normal” years there would be a major increase in televisions being sold right now. For some reason this year doesn’t seem to be fitting that mold.
Stores like Best Buy, HHGregg, and Innovative Concepts in Decatur are reporting less than stellar sales numbers on televisions right now, some calling it a “flat season.” Some say tough economic times are to blame while others point to market saturation.
Eric Stockman, a Sales Manager at Innovative Concepts says, “(it’s) different than 2 or 3 years ago. I think most people have flat screen televisions of some type in their home.” He says anymore, people are only buying new TV’s to replace older, broken models they’ve already purchased.
But television sales wasn’t the only one suffering. Rent-A-Center says they aren’t seeing any more people renting bigger TV’s than usual.
If you are looking to grab a last-minute bargain on a new TV, Stockman gave some advice in the age-old debate of LED vs. LCD vs. plasma screens. He says while plasma offers brighter colors and a clearer picture, their screens are made of glass. So if it is going to be in a room with a lot of light or windows your best bet is getting the LED or LCD models due to the glare.
And based on Stockman’s advising, an LED screen is probably the better of the two. He says the backlit screen lighting of these models is more consistent, giving it slightly better picture quality and clarity.
