Fort Wayne, Ind. (www.incnow.tv) - A horrible statistic is becoming an inspiring movement called, One Billion Rising.
Thursday, on Valentine’s Day, Fort Wayne is joining in this global movement to help women who have become victims of abuse.
One billion represents the number of women and girls who have become victims. The group also says, today, one in three women falls victim to abuse over their lifetime.
These are all reasons why on Valentine’s Day hundreds of people in the Summit City are joining with One Billion Rising.
The event is being hosted at Parkview Field at noon. The Bad Apple Dancers, known for their moves during the Tincaps baseball season, will be leading a group of hundreds in a few dances.
"We've seen throughout history that if people can come together around something and eliminate the shame around it and instead shine a spotlight on it, make it something that people can draw up the courage to come forward, to become a survivor, to break the cycle, it's something that we really have the power to shift and change," said Lori Block Keys, Event Organizer.
Everyone who goes to the event at Parkview Field will get information about resources in Fort Wayne for victims of abuse. Every third person who comes in will also get a free t-shirt. That is another effort to emphasize that one in three women will be abused in their lifetime.
