WHITLEY COUNTY, Ind. (21Alive) -- A Fort Wayne truck driver was arrested this past Saturday night by the Indiana State Police on charges related to the possession of cocaine following a traffic stop on US 30 near Columbia City.
A little after 7 p.m., a semi tractor trailer was observed traveling eastbound on US 30, east of State Road 9 when it was said to have purportedly committed a traffic violation as well as had an equipment violation that needed to be addressed.
The vehicle combination was stopped and as Troopers spoke with the driver, 69-year-old Guadalupe Quintanilla, they became suspicious of potential criminal activity based on their training and experience. A State Police K-9 was summoned for an open air sniff, and when it alerted on the semi tractor, Quintanilla gave permission for Troopers to conduct a search.
During the search of the passenger compartment, Troopers found 38 individually wrapped packages containing a white powder, later identified as cocaine, with an approximate weight of 38 kilograms (approx. 83 lbs.). This amount has an approximate street value of between $3 million and $4 million.
Quintanilla was taken into custody without incident and incarcerated in the Whitley County Jail without bond.
