NOBLE COUNTY, Ind. (21Alive) -- An off-duty Indiana State Police Corporal saved a man's life after his boat flipped over in Knapp Lake.

Corporal Peter L. Bradley was in his backyard on Knapp Lake this past Friday around 5:45 p.m. when he saw four people struggling with a sinking paddle boat. Bradley walked to the shore to ask if they needed assistance and at this time the boat flipped, sending 56-year-old James Nicodemus and a 4-year-old boy into the water. The young boy was wearing a life jacket and emerged but Nicodemus did not.

Bradley reacted quickly and jumped into the water, swimming 50 yards to where the boat flipped over. Bradley grabbed Nicodemus and brought him back to shore. Nicodemus was taken to the hospital for treatment.

Alcohol is believed to have played a factor in the incident.
