INDIANA (21Alive) – The deadly lessons learned from the 2011 Indiana State Fair stage collapse are now part of a new safety guide for outdoor events worldwide.

The Event Safety Alliance announced the release of the guide recently. Included in the guide are best practices for emergency planning, weather preparedness and temporary staging, rigging and special effects.

It addresses the same safety issues that emerged from the investigation into the Aug. 2011, Indiana stage collapse that killed seven people, including Alina BigJohny of Fort Wayne, and injured dozens more awaiting a Sugarland concert.
