FORT WAYNE, Ind. (21Alive) -- Staff at St. Joseph say this is the hospital's first major operating room renovation project since 1978.
"It is so exciting. We have let the staff be a part of this project since day one," said RN Bethany Wall.
Wall is one of those who have been very hands-on throughout the renovation. Less than just six months ago, she drilled away at the brick and mortar of the hospital.
But on Tuesday morning, she showed off an entirely different view.
The renovation updates all of the OR rooms with new technology, equipment, and overhead surgical lighting.
It also includes renovating many of the pre- and post-operative rooms.
Officials at St. Joseph hospital say these renovations are just another example of their ongoing commitment to downtown development in Fort Wayne.
"The public should be excited about this because we are the heart of downtown," Wall adds.
The new OR rooms will be put to use on march 17th, marking the end of phase one renovations.
The entire 20,000 square foot project will take two more phases of construction and is scheduled to be completed later this year.
The renovation cost $5.9 million.
