FORT WAYNE, Ind. (21Alive) - Two local students were awarded Thursday scholarships for driver's education courses through Allen County Drive Alive's driver education courses.

Northrop High School sophomore Andrew Hattaway and South Side senior Lakeisha Bonner both won the Ralph Taylor Award scholarship.

The scholarships go towards driver education classes at Precision Driving on Coldwater Road.

Andrew and Lakeisha were chosen through an essay. The award is named for former Allen County deputy coroner Ralph Taylor, who started Drive Alive in 2005. Taylor died in 2009.

Drive Alive is a non-profit organization dedicated to reducing distractive driving among teenagers, and providing resources for parents who are assisting children learn to drive.

21Alive's Jim Turcovsky was on the award committee that chose the winners.
