Fort Wayne, Ind. (www.incnow.tv) – A typical day takes a turn for the worse when a man is shot inside his own home on the city’s southeast side Monday morning.
"I just don't understand how that could happen,” said Zarian Porter, victim's nephew. "I mean doesn't do anything to nobody, he's a quiet person, he stays to himself.”
The man was shot inside his house in the 2700 block of Plaza Drive. Police say he was shot in the upper chest and shoulder and taken to the hospital in serious condition.
Police say several shell casings were found inside the house meaning multiple shots were fired. For the man's nephew, he finds it shocking that someone would have done this to his uncle.
"He's a good person. I mean he's a caring person. He has custody of his son. I mean he's just an all around good person,” said Porter.
Before opening fire police believe the gunman first knocked on the front door, and then pushed his way into the home.
"We know that there was at least one other person in the home and they would be considered our witness at this time,” said Officer Raquel Foster, Fort Wayne Police Department.
That woman, who was inside the home during the shooting, was not hurt. Police say she's been helpful to police as they continue their investigation.
Police say nothing is missing from the home, but they believe the gunman's motive was robbery.
