FORT WAYNE, Ind. (21Alive) – Santa Claus visits Smith Field to help collects Christmas gifts for Toys For Tots.
Santa traded in the sled for a new ride—a helicopter. The Fort Wayne-Allen County Airport Authority hosted "Santa’s Landing" Saturday morning to benefit the Fort Wayne area Toys For Tots program.
Santa flew into Smith Field Airport via helicopter. Admission to the event was simply one new, unwrapped toy donation for the local Toys For Tots program which organizers say can give something even greater than just a new toy.
“Working with the Marines this program since 1947, our mission and our goal is to provide hope to those less fortunate children at Christmas with a new unwrapped toy, and we believe that providing a new toy to that child lets them know that they have not been forgotten,” said Sunny Helstrom, with the Marine’s Toys Fort Tots.
Following Santa’s arrival, children were able to meet Santa, tell him their Christmas wishes, and have their photos taken with him.
