March 11, 2012 Updated Mar 12, 2012 at 4:44 AM EST

ANGOLA, Ind. (Indiana's NewsCenter) -- A motorcycle crashed into a ditch Saturday evening, and the driver is being treated at Parkview Hospital in Fort Wayne.

Steuben County Sheriffs Department, Steuben County EMS and Hamilton Fire Rescue were sent to a motorcycle crash on SR 1 south of Metz road just before 5:30 p.m. Saturday. The first on scene found the motorcycle operator, Michael J. Howard, 48 of Angola slumped over on the side of the road.

Investigators say Howard was headed northbound on SR 1, but the curves and turns of the road proved too much for his 2010 custom motorcycle to handle. Howard crashed into a ditch.

Howard was wearing a helmet but was sent to Parkview by Samaritan helicopter for leg injuries.
